Giving back to the Boonies...
Where did they come from these unusual handmade pulls, buttons ornaments and closures on our bags, belts and jackets? Some of the metal and wooden pieces were made by Susan’s father, uncle, niece or nephew. Those horns, whistles and other miscellaneous items came from Africa via the handiwork of women who are suffering from HIV/Aids, poverty or homelessness. The hand wrought nature of each item bespeaks itself and offers a unique touch which is only made possible by working directly with individuals.
We have been blessed to know and help support Sellah and her women’s group in Kenya since 2006 and continue to develop new items regularly with her. Furthermore we have been supportive of the kind spirited and humble Pastor Jean Claude and his church in Haiti for many years. Currently we are focusing on their orphanage needs in Thomassique and hope to develop a product line with them as well. So when you buy something from Susan Riedweg Designs we hope that you recognize these special details but more importantly think about the people that you are helping to support through your purchase. |
